Hello! My name is Shane Layman and I am a current History Secondary Education student at Boise State University. I was born and raised in Boise. I grew up playing the game of baseball and played 2 years of college baseball before unfortunately blowing out my elbow and being unable to throw. But life goes on! I am now a current student and I work as a delivery driver for Jimmy Johns.
I really got interested in teaching because of the relationships I was able to build up between my history instructors in high school and myself. I have always had a love for history and I want to be able to hopefully make an impact on students in the same way that my teachers in high school were able to impact my life.
I want to teach in a very Socratic seminar fashion. I want to be able to lecture but with a purpose and have students interacting within the seminar and having discussions as well as being able to have a sophisticated argument in order to better their knowledge of the subject. I think having multiple forms of technology available to the students will also benefit their learning ability. I know most students hate writing papers but I believe that doing the research on your own is one of the best ways to learn. Having to create a portfolio is also equally important and if I were able to access the same use of Digication that BSU is able to use I will be able to create a fun and interactive learning environment for my students.
